Our client is a top tier engineering consultancy providing mining, geotechnical and environmental services to a wide range of sectors including Mining, Civil, Rail and Construction around the world.

Based in Johannesburg, South Africa this role consults to major mining houses, contractors and governmental bodies on a variety of geotechnical and environmental issues including the design and management of tailings storage facilities, mining rock mechanics and heap leach pad design. You will manage a team of 6 engineers with specialist knowledge across the mining sector and work on projects throughout Africa with some travel involved to sites and emerging projects.

This role would suit an ambitious geotechnical professional with 10-15 years of mining and civil experience looking to lead a team of motivated engineers and who would thrive on growing a business with an excellent reputation in the market.

Reports to - Regional Manager

Civil Estimator|FIFO 10:4| NZ| Water

THE POSITION

We are currently looking for a Civil Estimator with 5 years estimating and tendering experience within the Australian public infrastructure projects environment to join and international contractor operating globally on large infrastructure projects who are well-known for their extensive dam and water infrastructure experience.

DUTIES

Reporting to the Estimating Manager working in a team of 15, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Obtaining sub-contractor and supplier quotations and assessing these

Obtaining labour rates, plant rates and other cost data for input into estimates and all other requirements of the tendering, contract review and job control procedure.

Organising submissions to clients for expressions of interest in consultation with pre-contracts team.

Preparing tenders/quotations and list exceptions and clarifications as well as reviewing tenders with management as appropriate.

Negotiate and agree project-specific subcontract/supply arrangements.

REQUIREMENTS

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria:

5 years estimating and tendering experience

Expert Estimator

Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or related field advantageous

Proven experience working on major projects

Exemplary technical knowledge and analytical skills within the civil and construction industry

Proven ability to communicate well verbally and written

The successful candidate will be rewarded with a competitive daily rate and comfortable roster of 10:4.

This short term contract has the potential to become an on going project should be awarded this major project.

Flood Drainage Assistant Engineer

My client is looking to recruit an assistant Flood Drainage Engineer with ISIS / Tuflow modeller or river / coastal engineers with experience of rock armour, revetments, walls and banks or drainage. Ideal applicants would have both design and modelling experience.

You'll support out Flooding and Drainage team across a number of flood management projects.

You'll be expected to support the Senior Engineer on technical projects including flood and hydrological studies and river and drainage work.

Key activities within this role will include modelling and design work, report writing and calculations whilst you'll also have the opportunity to undertake site visits and liaise with sub-contractors.

As a minimum you'll be degree qualified whilst relevant post graduate qualifications are desirable.

You'll have progressed towards Professional level membership of a relevant institution and will have a proven and demonstrable technical background in delivering flooding and drainage projects to high technical standards.

As well as a sound working knowledge of the industry, legislation and approval processes you'll be appropriately skilled in some hydrological and hydraulic modelling software.

You'll also have the ability to work under your own initiative on technical matters and manage your own time and that of others.

Our client is a leading infrastructure and business services group that works in partnership with its public services' clients, providing advisory, design, project delivery and managed services associated with infrastructure and business services across the highways and transportation, local government and utilities markets.

They are looking to recruit a Senior Level Waste Water Modeller who will be based in their Glasgow Office, and provide technical leadership and guidance to a team in the delivery of Wastewater Engineering projects; ensuring accurate and efficient project delivery for internal and external clients.

The role includes technical and financial project management and ensuring project delivery. The successful recruit will assist their modelling Team Leader/Principal Engineer in delivering the technical aspects of wastewater networks studies and asset management projects.

This will include hydraulic modelling studies using industry standard software namely Infoworks CS as well as other projects requiring detailed technical input.

The person would also support the Principal Engineer with regards to securing future work, managing and developing the hydraulic modelling team to ensure efficient delivery of projects whilst providing technical expertise to the team

To be considered a suitable applicant for this position:

You would need to reside in the UK or have eligiability to work in the UK

Negotiation and agreement of target costs, including the use of an estimating database to benchmark and challenge contractor's proposed target cost

Conversion of provisional target costs to target cost, with any adjustments to the GMP validation of the contractors application for payment

Reporting on KPI's

Geotechnical Design Engineer

Geotechnical Design Engineer, working for a world renowned Engineering Consultancy in their Solihull office.

Current projects include road and rail and all types of built development in the UK and abroad, as well as Oil and gas industry projects globally, including regions of seismic activity. There is a growing capability in the risk-based assessment of infrastructure earthworks assets. Workload is for a variety of internal and external clients usually within a multidisciplinary framework. Located on the outskirts of Solihull the working environment is second to none and the opportunity to interact with the many and diverse groups within Campus, enriches the work experience.

Role

Tasks will be varied including geotechnical analysis and design, site supervision, production of drawings, specifications and reports and the supervision of more junior members of the team.
Accountable for quality of own work to time and budget and those of team members as applicable.
Regular contact with site investigation contractors and external agencies.
Developing contacts with Clients.
Reporting to the Associate and team Management.
Travel including some opportunity for overseas work so foreign language (particularly European) would be an advantage.
Experience in seismic geotechnical design would be an advantage.
Experience in risk-based assessment or design, include use of statistics and probabilities in geotechnical applications would be an advantage.

Requirements

MEng or good civils based degree with post grad qualification in geotechnical related subject
Likely to be Chartered with the relevant body
Good communications skills (both written and verbal)
Able to quickly develop successful client relationships (both internal and external)
